Sufi Dervishes are a spiritual group that use music and dance to attain an
improved state of awareness in a custom known as zikr. The percussion parts of
the women’s Zar group a popular session of Dervish music. The Sufi orders
involve in ritualized dhir festivities. Each of the order or heritage within an
order has one or more types of orchestra dhikr, the liturgy of which may
include recitation, instrumental music, singing, incense, dream, dance,
costumes, mediation and happiness. Dhir in an orchestra is very frequently
performed on Thursday or Sunday nights as part of the institutional practice of
the orders.
