Rock Music of Kenya

Rock music is a home to the growing fan base and with a series of locally recognized as well as appearing rock bands (there are more than twelve local rock bands in Nairobi alone) further cementing this genre by taking part in diverse as well as jointly organized rock theme activities. The international rock bands like (Casting Crowns, Parachute band, Jars of Clay, Zebra & Giraffe and 38^th Parallel) Skinflint heavy metal from Botswana) have also graced the local scene, which shows on the growing inspiration and acceptance of this genre.

One of the organized member of the bodies such as Wiyathi (presently defunct) and Roffeke (rock n roll film festival Kenya) were fundamental in the first marketing of the local rock bands in the country by organizing a regular concerts, which will help and establish a lively rock community. Presently, the bands are also in social group events like Kenya Rock fans that have widely supported the bands to achieve fame and increased their fan base, subsequently, the founding of a leading body, the rock society of Kenya, serves to encourage the interest of the member bands. The society won several rock related activities like the Beatle of the bands and live rock club concerts that has encouraged constructive level of activity for bands. Over the previous year’s many entertainment spots also have independently joined the rock music onto their programs further showing an interests from the audience. In addition there are also a radio stations that play the rock music like 98.4 capital FM and 105.5 X FM, the last being a 24 hour rock station KTN (Str8up), STV (the Rumble) and K24 (the Rumle) which also play constantly on weekly rock concerts.
