The very popularly recognized form of Punjabi music is known as bhangra, it is based on drum rhythms of the dhol. The bhangra and Punjabi traditional songs have been an essential part of the fertile regions cultural history and many themes are connected to harvest and cultivation. The late Alam Lohar is known for his support in Punjabi music since the creation of Pakistan until his death in 1979 and promoting the music word Jugni and the Punjabi instrument Chimta.
