rocksteady was the music of the Jamaica’s rude boys by the mid-1960s, when the
Wailers and the Clarendonians lead the charts Desmond Dekker’s 007 brought the
international attention to the original genre. The mix put heavy emphasis on
the bass lyric, as opposed to ska’s strong horn part, and the rhythm guitar
started playing on the upbeat, session artists such as Soul vendors, Jets,
Supersonics and Jackie Mittoo of the Skatalites became famous during this
period.
