During
the late 1960s, reggae appeared as a reinterpretation of the American rhythms
and blues. Reggae became well-known all over the world, due in large part to
the international success of musicians such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and
Bunny Wailer. Marley was viewed as a Rastafarian messianic figure by some
audiences, particularly throughout the Caribbean, Africa and among the Native
Americans and Australian Aborigines. His lyrics about love, redemption and
natural beauty enchanted viewers and he gained headlines for negotiating the
peace between the two opposing Jamaican political parties at the one lover show
led by Michael manly (PNP) and Edward Seaga.
