The national anthem of the Iceland is Lofsongur which is written by Mathias Jochumsson, with music by Sveinbjorn Sveinbjornsson. The song, in the form of a hymn, was written in the year 1874, when the Iceland celebrated their one thousandth anniversary of immigration on the island. This was first published under the title A Hymn in Commemoration if Iceland’s Thousand Years.
