the Polynesian baby neighbors, the recent Fijians play guitar, ukulele and
mandolin along with a variety of indigenous instruments, most rare lali drums that
are now used to call the people of an area together. Lali drums were a
significant part of the traditional Fijian culture, used as a way of communication
to announce births, deaths, and wars. A smaller way of the Lali drum (lali ni
meke) is used as a form in instrumentation, the meke is a type of spiritual
folk dance, in which dancers bodies are said to be possessed by a spirits,
other drums instrument include the derua, which is tubes made from bamboo and
are printed on mats or on the ground. Other dance includes the women’s dele
which disgraced enemy prisoner’s sex and the men’s cibi which uses spear and
club.
