The word morens refers to the dark in Spanish. This music and the dance are from La Paz and which involve a lot of drums and rattles. Over the centuries trumpets, trombones and cymbals were introduced. This traditional Bolivian dance was also migrated from African slaves brought to Bolivia from Africa to work on hacienda, however, this music comes from the place of Lake Titicaca which is high on the Bolivian Altiplano (the high plateau that surrounds La Paz) not that of the tropical Yungas region.
