In the mid-20th century, the Virgin Islands were largely culturally remote from international famous music, in the 1960’s a growth in the tourism caused an arrival of settlers to fill the service positions the tourism industry made. These settlers brought with them several patterns of famous music, which was popularized by the growth of mass media in the islands like the television and radio.
At the year 1980, the Virgin islands was home to several imported patterns, especially salsa, reggae, soca, merengue and the rock, the jazz western classical music and musical theatre, along with the international pop stars, were rarely mainstream interests, while the islands youth formed groups and the dance bands that played patterns famous over the Caribbean, mainly the Latin, Jamaican and Trinidadian influenced salsam reggae, steelplan and soca, the large Puerto Rican population in the Virgin Islands kept the famous music from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic a major part of the islands industry.
