When playing the
instrument, the performer sits beside the krapeu, his left hand runs up and
down the strings of the instrument while the right hand plucks the strings of
the instrument with the use of a plectrum. The musical instrument is mostly
used for wedding music, A-yai, Chapei and some modern music. The krapeu is
similar to the ‘jakhe’ that is used in Thailand; both of them are used in the
mahori group. The instrument is analogous also to the Burmese ‘Mon kyam’.
