The kakakiis a three or four meter long trumpet that is used in Hausa cultural ceremonial music. Kakaki is the name of the instrument as it is being called in Chad, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Benin, Niger and Nigeria. In Chad and Sudan, the instrument is also called the waza and in Ethopia, the musical instrument is called malakat.
The kakaki traditionally comes from songhaicalvary. The sound of the instrument is linked with royalty and it is only played at ceremonies of at the king or sultan in the Hausa kingdom. The musical instrument is used as an accompaniment to the sara, a weekly statement of power and authority. The kakaki are selectively played by men.
