João Carlos de Medeiros Pardal Mallet as born on the 9th December 1864; he died on the 24th November 1894. He was a Brazilian journalist and a novelist. He was the occupant of the 30th Brazilian Academy of Letters.

Life
Pardal Mallet was born in the city of Bagé, in Rio Grande do Sul in the year 1864. His father was the popular General João Nepomuceno de Medeiros Mallet.
Right from his tender age, Pardal Mallet had strong likeness for literature; he learned how to speak the French and the English language.
After his primary education, Pardal Mallet moved to the city of Rio de Janeiro to study medicine in the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, though he never completed the course, because his teacher threatened to expel him because of his ideals about the republican. He had to leave medicine and join literature and journalism.
Pardal Mallet moved to the city of Sao Paulo to study law at the Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de São Paulo, but he completed the course in the city Recife, Pernambuco. At the time he was getting his diploma, v refused to swear because of his ideals of the republican.
He moved back to the city of Rio and became friend with many writers of the city like Olavo Bilac, Raul Pompeia, Coelho Neto, Luís Murat, José do Patrocínio, Artur and Aluísio Azevedo, Émile Rouède and Francisco de Paula Ney
Pardal Mallet became the editor in chief of A Cidade do Rio in the year 1888 and he left the journal the next year because of political differences.
He got tuberculosis and relocated to the city of Caxambu, in Minas Gerais, so as to minimize the spread of the disease, he died on the 24th November 1894.
