Dorothea Macheiner grew up in Steinbach am Attersee. She studied theology and German philology. Many tours led her to the Mediterranean, Tunisia and Sardinia.
Dorothea Macheiner took part at the literature award called Ingeborg-Bachmann-Wettbewerb in the city of Klagenfurt. She is currently residing in Salzburg and in the city of Vienna.
Dorothea Macheiner authors novels, poetry, essays, drama and plays for the radio.
Dorothea Macheiner is a member of the writers' associations Grazer Autorenversammlung and IG Autorinnen Autoren.
