Francisco "Chico" Buarque de Hollanda was born on the 19th
June 1944 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; he is popularly known with
the name Chico Buarque. He is a
Brazilian singer, a guitarist, a composer, a dramatist, a writer and a poet.
Chico Buarque is best known for his music that are about social, economic and
cultural commentary on the country and on the city of Rio de Janeiro.

He is the son of the academic
called Sérgio Buarque de Hollanda, he resided in many places throughout his
childhood, mosty in in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Italy.
He wrote and studied literature as a kid and came to the
music of the country through the bossa nova compositions of Tom Jobim and João
Gilberto. Chico Buarque performed music
throughout the 1960s and also wrote play that was seen to be a threat by the
military regime of the country in that time. He was threatened by the military
regime of the country and he had to leave the country to Italy in the year
1970. He relocated back to his country in the year 1971 and continued with his
album recording, performances and with his writing, though most of the works he
did were not permitted by th government of the country.
