an Australian journalist, author and a playwright. He has lived and worked in
Rome since the year 1962.

Desmond M. O'Grady was born in the city of Melbourne Australia; he is the
son of Edward
O'Grady and Winifred (Kiernan) O'Grady. He attended his primary school at the
Good Shepherd Convent Melbourne. His father worked for the Navy of the country
and from the year 1940, Desmond M.
O'Grady attended the Marist Brothers in the city of Sydney and it was there
that his father was transferred to be in charge of the Naval Stores at Garden
Island Naval Base. He went back to complete his primary education at the Christian
Brothers in St. Kilda, Melbourne and it was there that he completed his
secondary education as well.
He played cricket as
a boy with the South Melbourne club and in his youth age as an opening batsman
for the national team of Italy.
