Early Life
LeopoldoLugonesArgüello was born in Villa de Maríadel Río
Seco, a city that is located in Cordoba region of the country. He is of the
family of landed gentry and was the first son of Santiago M. Lugones and
CustodiaArgüello.
At the age of 6, the
family relocated to the city of Santiago del Estero and later to the little
town called Ojo de Agua.
His first work for
the newspaper called La Montana was in the favor of the aristocratic Manuel
Quintana, who was a candidate to become the president of the country. This
first brought him to the city of Buenos Aires in the year 1897, and that was
where he developed his literary talent.
That same year, he got married to Juana Agudelo and they had a son
together, Leopoldo Polo Lugones, who became the notorious chief of the Federal
Police at the time of the dictatorship of Jose Felix in the country. In the
year 1899, he became an active freemason.
