ĢĪGA: latvia musical instrument

The ģīga is a two-stringed bowed zither that can be found in Latvia. The musical instrument is descended from the psalmodicon, which is a bowed monochord that is fabricated in Sweden in the year 1829 for liturgical singing. From there the musical instrument passed down to the Latvian peasantry that added a second string to the musical instrument for harmony.
