Life
Edgardo Cozarinsky was born to the argentine family of Ukrainian-Jewish
descent. His last name is from the grandparents.
Edgardo Cozarinsky studied literature at Buenos Aires University and he
wrote for the local and Spanish cinephile magazines and he published an early
essay on James. He became used to the novels that were written by Jorge
Luis Borges, Adolfo BioyCasares and SilvinaOcampo in the city. Edgardo
Cozarinsky won the literary prize for his essay on gossip as narrative device
in the writing of James and Proust. In the year 1974, Edgardo Cozarinsky
published Borges y el cine, and
it was a book that became a success.
Edgardo Cozarinsky visited Europe from the September of the year 1966 to
June of the year 1967. When he got back to his country, he fully committed his
time to his writing.
At the time of the turmoil of the Dirty War of the country, Edgardo
Cozarinsky left Buenos Aires to Paris and it was there that he focused on the
art of filmmaking. He manufactured fiction movies and essays, documentary
material with his private reflection on the material.
Between the year 1970 and the year 1990, Edgardo Cozarinsky published
less. His main novel from that time gained a good number of audience; Vudúurbano, which was a combination of fiction and
essay like his film works.
Edgardo Cozarinsky went back to Buenos Aires for a short time after the
military junta in the country. He then went back to the country after three
year to produce the movie called Guerreros y cautivas.
Edgardo Cozarinsky was diagnosed with cancer in the year
1999. And this gave him the motivation to dedicate the remaining part of his
life to writing. While he was in the hospital, he wrote the first two stories
for La novia de Odessa. In the year 2005, Edgardo Cozarinsky wrote and directed
the movie called Squash. In the year 2008, he began to work on the libretto for
a chamber opera with the musician called Pablo Mainetti-Ultramarina, centered
on the drives from his own novel called El rufiánmoldavo.
