Cuban
and Puerto Ricans in the New York developed salsa in the early 70s, by using
multiple sources from Latin American in the pan-Latin melting pot of the city.
Puerto Rican plena and bomba and the Cuban chachacha, son montuno and mambo
were the largest influences, couple with the Jamaica, Mexican, Trinidadian,
Brazilian, and Dominican, Colombian and Argentinian sources. All of these
earliest salsa artists like Toto Puente, had a long profession in different
patterns of Latin music, salsa increased very renowned in the 70s and into the
following years, extending into the south to Venezuela, Colombian, Peru, Puerto
Rico, Mexico and particularly to Cuba.
