Leena Alam

Leena Alam is an Afghanistan actress who was born in Kabul. She acted in movies like Kabuli Hid, Running in Circle, Loori and some other movies. In the year 1989, Leena together with her family relocated to America, this is because of the war that took place nin her homeland. She started her acting career and cinema career in the year 1998. Leena feel that the simplest and best way for an individual to express his or her opinions and though is by acting movies. In foreign land, she performed the role of an indian girl who arrived in the US to study. She is devoted to the customs and values of her people. Leena then befriend with her mate in school, who is also an Afghsn origin; meanwhile, because of the striong attachment she holds for then tradition of her people, she did not accept to marry any man and she left for India after her school. It was during the casting of this film that she met her late mentor called Salaam Sangi. He performed a great part in the development of her career and talent as an actress. Salaam encouraged the young actress and guided her on and off the set. Loorie and Orozaki Films was one of the best movies of the United States. Leena played an emotional part as well as mentally wounded girl from Afghanistan, who had no remembrance of her past. In the year 2007, she came back to her state of origin, Kabul and in films likeKabuli Kid by Barmak Akram. Featuring in her own production. She also did some other short films to aid the film producers in the country. Her most current movie with the Iranian Film producers was Soil and Coral that was manufactured by Parween Hussaini and was directed by Massoud Atyabi.

EARLY CAREER

In the starting part of her journey, she was a model and she participated in some dance competitions. Then she featured in her first film, Promise of Love, with the Tarin Films. She was performing a teacher who falls in love and because of her past, she is not appreciated and accepted and prior to the time she will get married to another person, she killed herself.

PEACE AMBASSSADOR

Leena was given the post of a peace ambassador of the UNAMA in the year 2009. Leena attends occasions that are celebrated on the International peace day and delivers the information of peace to the people, thereby promoting peace.

AWARDS

She won the best actress in the 3^rd yearly Kabul International movie Festival in the year 2008.

She won the best actress in the 4^th Annual Tolo Film Festival in the year 2009, because of the part she played in ‘Running in a Circle’ that was produced by Siyar Noorzaad.

She won the best Actress in the 2^nd Afghanistan Human Right Film Festival in the year 2013 for the function she took in the film ‘The Unknown’, produced by Ghafar Faizyar.
