Bubblegum
was a type of pure South African pop music that emerged during the middle of
the 80s, particularly based on choral with overlapping call-and-response
choral. Electronic keyboards and synthesizers were popular. Dan Tshanda of the ensemble Splash was
the initial major bubblegum artist, which followed by Chico Twala-Twala brought some politically oriented words, such as
We Miss You Manelo (a coded tribute to Nelson Mandela) and Papa Stop War, a
cooperation with Mzwakhe Mbuli. In
the late 80s marked the emerge of Yvonee
Chaka Chaka, starting with her 1984 hit which is known as I’m In Love With
a DJ, which was the initial major hit for bubblegum. Her fame emerged into the
90s, particularly throughout the whole of African and into Europe. Chaka
Chaka’s initial major competing was known as Brenda Fassie, whose fame started with 1993s Amagents; since becoming involved in many scandals as well as drug
issues before her death in the year 2004. Jabu
