Religious Music of Maldives

Previously in the islands of Maldives, there is festival known as Mauludu, and it is a place where religious songs were sung by a group of males within a pavilion (haruge) specially built for the event. When a Maulud was to emerge, the local islanders had to build a bigger, open sided pavilion with wooden poles. They roof it with coconut-palm fronds and design it with oil lamps and unique patchwork curtains. The day of the occasion, special food is prepared and beautiful display is also carried out for the benefit of the Maulud singers and a big number of guests who are coming from the competing island or villages with their best dresses with festively designed boats. And the host islanders have to show that they are hospitable in the preparations and accommodation in order to be able compared favoured when it is their own time to receive the kind gesture in the completing island on similar event.
