and Romania music are closely linked in their cultural kin. The Moldovan folk
is known for move, difficult rhythms (shares its characteristic with many of
the Eastern European customs), syncopation, musical improvisation and much
melodic ornamentation. Rock, pop, hip hop and other new genres have their own
supporters in Moldova also. O-Zone is one of the new pop stars, a Romanian and
Moldovan ensemble whose Dragostea din tei was a major in 2004 European hit and
also guitarist and songwriter Vladimir Pogreniuc, Natalia Barbu who renowned in
Germany, Ukraine, Romania and Nelly Ciobanu. The ensemble of Flacai became
popular in the 970s throughout Moldova making their hometown of Cahul into a
major center of music.
