Ska
is a music genre that coined in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the
forerunner to rocksteady and reggae. Ska mixed elements of Caribbean mento and
calypso with the American jazz and rhythms and blues. The first very ska
recording was made by Count Ossie, a Nyabhingi drummer from the rasta village.
This is characterized by walking bass lyric accented with rhythms on the
upbeat. In the early 1960s, ska was the leading music genre of the Jamaica and
was famous within the British modes. Later it became famous with many
skinheads.

Music
historians normally divide the history of ska into three different periods, the
original Jamaican scene of the 1960s (first wave), the English 2 tone ska
renewal of the late 170s (second wave) and third wave of the ska trend, which
began in the 1980s (third wave) and rose to fame in the United States in the
1990s, and the present restoration of Jamaican jazz attempts to bring back the
sound of early Jamaican music musicians of the late 1950s and 60s.
