The Guinea’s Mande are mostly Maninka speaking. Music is led by the djelis, travelling singer-researchers who sing praises to their noble patrons. In the recent period, the guitar plays a very significant impact. The traditional instruments which include the ngoni, a distant relative of the banjo, and the balafon, popular balafon players like Ei Hadji Djeli Sory Kouyate and early in his career, superstar Mory Kante, the kora, a cross between a harp and lute, is also spread over. Other famous traditional music utilized the cylindrical Dunun paired with the goblet shaped Djembe.
