Augusto Belin was born on the 14th January 1854; he died on the 25th September 1936. He was an argentine
writer and a diplomat. He is the son of a printer called Julio Belin and Ana
Faustina Sarmiento, who is also the daughter of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento.

He was born in Chile he travelled with his maternal grandfather to Lima
and Washington DC and he studied at the West Point Military Academy. He ended
up in Paris in the year 1870 and fought there as a volunteer army.
Augusto Belin started his career as a collaborator at the XIXme
Siècle on the matters of the country. When he came back to the country, Augusto Belin was employed by the National
Senate to work as a translator of the Wilson Book Review Digest in the year
1877. He was given the responsibility of managing the BibliotecaNacional de Maestros, and it was
there that he started an inventory, finding the total of 8,733 copies in the
archive and the total of 39,152 in the deposit.
The next year, Augusto Belin
became the editor of the El Nacional at that period under the direction of
Domingo Faustina Sarmiento. He was also the director of the BibliotecaPública de San Juan as well as the
Minister of Intervention in Catamarca in the year 1893.
Augusto Belin acted as the Consul of the country to different countries
like Italy, Netherlands, Paraguay and France from the year 1906 to the year
1926.
Before he died, Augusto Belin was the commercial Attache in the
delegation in Asuncion of the country.
