Ana Paula Ribeiro Tavares was born on the 30th October 1952 in
Lubango, Huila region of Angola. She is an Angolan poet who started her
undergraduate degree in History at the University of Lubango. She eventually
relocated to Lisbon, and there in the year 1996, she finished with her Masters
in the African Literature. She is currently residing in Portugal and she is a
Ph. D. candidate in Literature and she is also a teacher at the Catholic
University of Lisbon.

Ana Paula Ribeiro Tavares is the only modern day poet of Angola since the
independence of the country. In the past, she organized historical research in
the national archives of the country. And she focused her works on the areas of
culture of the country, Museums, Archeology and Ethnology, Cultural Patrimony,
Entertainment as well as cultural education. She has been part of several
Symposia, conferences and study groups and in the development of the many
projects in the cultural field in the country.
Ana Paula Ribeiro Tavares has coordinated cultural events in Cuenza Norte
region of the country and has worked at the National Center for documentation
and historical research of the country as well as the Institute of Cultural
Heritage. From the year 1988 to the year 1990, she was a member of the Board of
National Awards for Literature in the country. She was also the head of
Research Office of the National Center for Documentations and Historical
Research in Luanda from the year 1983 to the year 1985. Ana Paula Ribeiro
Tavares is a member of many cultural organizations, including the committee of
the Angolan International Council of Museums, Committee of the
Angolan International Council on Monuments and Sites as well as the Committee
on Angola for UNESCO.
Ana Paula Ribeiro Tavares’s both poetry and prose has been translated and
added in many compilations of the following countries; Portugal,
Brazil, France, Germany, Spain and Sweden.
