Boualem Sansal was born in the year 19949. He is an Algerian author. In the year 2012, Boualem Sansal was named the winner of the Prix Roman Arabe, though the money prize of the award was removed because of the Sansal’s visit to Israel to deliver a speech at the Jerusalem Writers Festival.

Biography
Boualem Sansal was born in Algiers. He is a trained engineer with a doctorate degree in economics. Boualem Sansal started writing novels at the age of 50 after he had retired from his job as a high-rankin official in the government of the country. It was the assassination of the president of the country Boudiaf in the year 1992 and the high rise of the Islamic fundamentalism that gave him the inspiration to write about Algeria. Boualem Sansal is still living with his wife and two daughters in Algeria not minding the controversy that was aroused by his book in the country.  At the International Festival of Literature in Berlin in the year 2007, Boualem Sansal was introduced as a writer who is exiled in his own country. Boualem Sansal claimed that the country is becoming a bastion of Islamic extremism and the nation is losing its intelligent and moral foundations.
Literary Career
Boualem Sansal’s novel called Le village de l'Allemand ou le journal des frères Schiller, is the story of two Algerian brothers who warren into the past and found out that there father had been a Nazi officer that came into the country after the war. The book talked more about the line that is holding the Islamic fundamentalism and the Nazism. This was the first of his novels to be translated to the English language and the book was published in the United States as the GermanMujahid and in the United Kingdom as An Unfinished Business.
Awards and Critical Acclaim
Boualem Sansalwrites in the French language and his works has won the top literaryu awards in France, among them is the Prix du Premier Roman that he won in the year 1999. His first novel was called Le serment des Barbares, which is published by Gallimard in the year 1999,has now been made into a movie based on the screenplay that was produced by Jorge Semprun.
On the 16th October 2011, Boualem Sansal got the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
On the 19th December 2011, Boualem Sansal was announced to have been on the jury for the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival, which was meant to hold in February 2012.
Boualem Sansal was the winner of the 2012 Edition of the Gallimard Arabic Novel Prize for his book called Rue Darwin. The prize was given to him by the Arab Ambassadors Council, which were based in Paris. The 15,000 euros money prize that was given to him was revoked when the council learnt that Boualem Sansal attended the Jerusalem Writers Festival earlier in that year.
