Mohammed Jamil Hanifi was born on the 27th June 1935 in the Sorkhab region of Afghanistan. He is an author of many books and has made a good contribution of many anthropology articles.

Jamil got his Master’s degree from the Michigan State University and got his Ph.D. from the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Jamil was a member of the faculty in the Northern Illinois University under the consideration for the chairmanship of the Anthropology department when plagiarism allegation was leveled against him. He ended up resigning his services from the University. He is presently working with the department of Anthropology at the Michigan State University in Afghanistan.
