Mohammad Yousuf Azraq was born on the
5th October 1937 in Logar region of Afghanistan and he died on the
27th June, 1992 in Kabul. He was a historian of the country and a
writer that wrote about the history of his country and also the cultural and
theological background of the Southern Asian and the Middle Asia.
Life
Azraq was born into a peasant family
in the Logar region of Afghanistan. His father was a farmer and he lost his
mother at the age of 10. Azraq had a passionate for education and knowledge and
so his maternal uncle made sure that he got the best education he can. Azraq
was made to enroll at the military cadet school of Kabul in the year 1950 and
he graduated from the Aeiral University with a good result and for that was
given honorary scholarship to continue his education in the Soviet Union. At
his arrival back to his country, he joined the Air Force of the country as a
navigator; meanwhile, his major interest was writing as he never got tired of
writing. During his days on earth, he manufactured a good number of books and
several scholarly papers starting from cultural, historical, religious, political
and social activities of Afghanistan to poetic and literary works. The
unscheduled and tragic death of Azraq came to be when a rocket hit close to his
office in the civil war of the early part of the 1990s.
Politics and Works
Azraq was an opinionated criticizer of
hegemonic rules and commiserated with leftist vision in the fight against the
outcropping of the hegemonic and imperialist forces. He ensured the success of
the people of his country in dropping the false and fairy-tale realization of
their ethnic contextual and buttressed the concept of a cooperative belonging
of the country not minding the racial or ethnic divides. He never supported the
changing and swashbuckler political stance of the politics of his country and firmly
stood up against the inconsistent form. He energetically and meticulously wrote
about the qualities and goodness of Islam that he thought was so important in
the unification of his country. He saw religion to be a general identity that
was important and indispensible at the same time in uniting the country,
creating brotherhood, human rights as well as cooperation in the social
relations in the country. Azraq studied and investigated the lives of great
philosophers, poets and political activists from his country. His latest work
was about the non-Montheistic religions of the universe; tactlessly, his death
did not give him the enthusiasm and joy to print the collection and the
masterpiece. Attempts have been made to publish the book during the reign of
the Taliban, but the drastic movement of the Taliban reign opposed the
publishing of the book.
