Over
fifty years, the sega have been the lively era with sega music and much are not
in the history. The past twenty year the Mauritian music has been restored by
the combination of sega and reggae music which is known as seggae. This modern
improvement appeared from one poorer environs of Port Loius, which is known as
Roche Bois along with artist Kaya (Joseph Reginald Topize) and his orchestra
known as Racinetatane as the first major advocate. Rastafarians achieved more
fame and then success more than the youths of Mauritius in late 80s and early
90s.

Kaya
died in murky and it is still mysterious circumstance while in the police
custody in 1999. He was arrested based on an allegedly smoking of pro-marijuana
in the public rally organized by an aspiring politician. There was conflict for
three days because of the death of Kaya which began with the rebellion against police
brutality when Kaya was discovered dead and have 30 marks of violence on his
body. This demonstration ended with the shift toward the communal fight that
endangered the social textile of Mauritius. In the time of this demonstration,
another vibrant seggae artists known as Berger Agather was killed at the
process by the police that led the double-blow to the Mauritius music scene
within some days. In spite of this the sega music, which still serves as one of
the Kaya’s legacy and it is seen as the voice exposing the sorrow and hopes of
many of the poorest Mauritians.
