In
Mauritius, sega is the most renowned type of music and dance. Instrumentation
of traditional sega includes a goat-skin covered drum, ravann, maravann and
triangle.
The
origin of sega is not clear. Most argue that sega music and dance roots are initiated
in the slavery era, but history did not establish this facts. Today, Mauritians
sing sega as a self-expression. The type of rural music include kawals,
Mauritian Bhojpuri songs that traced from the era of contract labour and
remained famous in Mauritian localities but are not in existence.
