The
New Zealand earliest electronica came out Wellington in the early 1980s.
Wellington’s the body electric released a hit known as Pulsing which spent four
months in the national Top 50.
The
outbreak of the club scene in Auckland in the period led to a flow in the
recording linked recording activity and during 1988 Propeller Records produced
New Zeeland’s first house record, Jam this record. Many of the activity during
this period pointed around reaction records and Pagan records. The compilation,
We’ll Do Our Best, on Propeller records was an early sample of this. The
greatest notable act during this era was the Car Crash Set which produced
several singles and also an album in the mid-1980s.
There
were irregular recording over the next few eras: particularly the work of Joost
Langeveld Angus McNaughton and DLT. The future jazz scene which was first originated
in Auckland in the early 1990s established in Auckland around the Cause Celebre
nightclub and the work of Nathan Haines with two prominent early producers
include Haines’ shift Left and Freebass Live At Cause Celebre.
