Boeren rock music of Netherlands

Some of the bands make some kind of rock music, which is sometime known as Borenrock (which means farmers rock). These bands combine rock and pop music with regional influences, sometimes sing in one of the regional languages and lyrics influenced by life in the rural region. Instances include BZB (Band Zonder Banaan) and WC Experience who is from Noord-Brabant, Jovink en de Voederbjetels and Normaal who are from Gelderland that sing with Dutch Low saxon, Neet O’et Lottum and Rowwen Heze who are from Limburg sing with Limburgish, Mooi Wark who is from Drenthe who sing with the Dutch Low Saxon and Jitiizer who is from Friesland who sing with West-Frisian.

Musically, those music that was played by such bands can be described as a rowdy, straightforward style of rock music that encouraged bands such as Motorhead, ZZ Top, Credence Clearwater Revival and AC/DC. Some other times, it is influenced by pop music and folk music (for instance the case with Rowwen Heze) which can be heard.

It is very hard for these bands to display a lot of funny elements in their collection, lyrics and live shows. An instance is the collection of the WC experience, which contains cover songs from bands such as Queen, Madness and Guns n’ Roses only if the lyrics are replaced by diverse, rather silly lyrics in their own language. Also, the name of Band Zonder Banaan refers to as band without a banana and it is a funny play on the name of a renowned Dutch pop band known as BZN (Band Zonder Naam or Band without a Name). The name of the Jovink en de Voederbietels is a reduction of the names of the two established band members (Hendrik Jan Lovink en Gijs Jolink) and voederbietel which is a funny reduction of the Dutch Low saxon word for sugar beets (used as food for horses) and the name of the world-renowned British pop band known as Beatles of which they used a number of songs which they changed the lyrics for Achterhooks ones.

Boerenrock ensembles tend to perform at local occasions and shows in big tents in the rural regions, rather than in show halls in bigger towns.  A occasion where a lot of Boerebrock music can be heard which is a popular occasion amongst Boerenrock bands and fans is the annual Zwarte Cross Festival (Black Motocross) which connect activities and rock festival.
