The panchamukha vadyam is an Indian drum. The
instrument is a metal drum that has five faces that are named after the faces
of Siva: Sadyojatam, Isanam, Tatpurusham, Aghoram and Vamadevam. The diameter
of the cetral face of the instrument is at slightly larger than those of the
peripheral faces. The musical instrument is played with the both hands by the
player of the instrument. The pitch of the instrument’s faces can be adjusted
by tightening or loosening the squeeze of the skin at the region of the
instrument’s neck and beneath the rim. The musical instrument is used in temple
music.
