Life and Career
Rudolph Schildkraut was born in Istanbul in the Ottoman Empire to a
Jewish family. He was raised in the city of Braila, Romania. In the city of
Vienna, he got lesson in acting from Friedrich
Mitterwurzer. He appeared for the
fitrst time in the early part of the 1880s in Sopro and his first good role in
the movies of the country came in the year 1885 in Krems.
He moved to the city of vienna to an engagement at the fresh Raimund
Theatre and in the year 1888, Rudolph Schildkraut moved to the Carl Theatre.
In the German Empire, Rudolph Schildkraut was known as a film actor in
the early part of the silent era of the country. He appeared in many film
dramas. The last movie he made in Europe was a biography of the German Zionism
founder called Theodor Hersi, and there he played the role of Herb Schildt.
Rudolph Schildkraut permanently moved to the United States in the year
1920 aqnd appeared for the first time in the American movies in the same year
in New York city in the play called Silent Forces. From the year 1922, he acted
with the english language. He was the founder if the Jewish theatre in The Bonx
in the year 1925.
Rudolph Schildkraut was married to Erna Weinstein and they together had a
son called Joseph Schildkraut, who was also a popular actor.
Rudolph Schildkraut died at the age of 67 of a heart attack in Los
Angeles. His son also died at the same age of the same heart attack.
