Paulista, Sao Paulo; he died on the 13th July 1986 in the city of
Rio de Janeiro. He was a Brazilian writer, novelist, and an essay writer.

Orígenes Lessa was elected to occupy the 10th chair of the
Brazilian Academy of Letters coming into the seat after Osvaldo
Orico. He was received on the 20th November 1981 by the Member of
the Academy called Francisco de Assis Barbosa.
Orígenes Lessa was the son of Vicente Themudo
Lessa, who was a historian, a journalist and a Protestant pastor from the Pernambuco,
and of Henriqueta Pinheiro Themudo Lessa. He was moved to the state of Maranhao
by the family in the year 1906 and it was there that he stayed till he was 9
years of age, with the journey of the father as a missionary. His childhood
experience gave his the inspiration of the novel called Rua do Sol. He moved
back to the city of Sao Paulo in the year 1912. At the age of 19¸ Orígenes Lessa moved into the protestant
seminar and left after two years.
Orígenes Lessa moved to the city of Rio de Janeiro in the year 1924,
separating from the family and there he faced great challenges. With the
intentions of supporting himself, Orígenes Lessa became a teacher. He completed
his Physical Education course and became a calisthenics teacher of Physical
Education Institute of the YMCA.
Orígenes Lessa moved into the newspaper world and published his first
article in the section of Social-Worker Tribune of the newspaper
of the country called O Imparcial.
Orígenes Lessa was married to the writer of the country called Elsie
Lessa. They had a son together who also is a journalist of the country, known
as Ivan Lessa.
