Maria Margarethe Anna Schell was born on the 15^th January 1926; she died on the 26^th April 2005. She was an Austrian/Swiss actress. She was the winner of the Volpi Cuo for the Best Actress of the Venice Film Festival in the year 1956 for Gervaise.

Early Life

Maria Margarethe Anna Schell was born in the city of Vienna; she was the daughter of Margarethe, an actress that escaped from the acting school and Hermann Ferdinand Schell, a Swiss poet, a novelist, a playwright, and the owner of a pharmacy. Her parents were Roman Catholics. She was the older sister of the actor of the country called Maximillian Schell and the lesser actors of the country Carl Schell and Immy (Immaculata) Schell.

Career

Maria Margarethe Anna Schell starred in many movies of the country like Dr. Holl of the year 1951, So Little Time of the year 1952, The Heart of the Matter of the year 1953, Gervaise of the year 1956, Le notti bianche of the year 1957, Rose Bernd of the year 1957, The Brothers Karamazov of the year 1958 playing the role of Grushenka, The Hanging Tree of the year 1959, Cimarron of the year 1960, as well as Superman in 1978.

The final public appearance of Maria Margarethe Anna Schell was at the premiere of her Brother Maximilian's documentary movie called My Sister Maria in the year 2002.

Maria Margarethe Anna Schell was married twice; her first marriage was to Horst Hachler and the second was to Veit Relin.  She died at the age of 79 on the 26^th April 2005 from pneumonia in Preitenegg.
