Hilda de Almeida Prado Hilst was born on the 21st April 1930;
she died on the 4th February 2004. She is known with the name Hilda
Hilst. Hs was a brazilian poet, playwright, and a novelist. Her fiction and
poetry are aklways on the theme of delicate initimacy, while soke of them are
treating the topic of insanity and incorporation of supernatural activities.

Early Life and Studies
Hilda Hilst was born in Jaú, São Paulo State. After going to
the Colégia Santa Marcelina in the city of Sao Paulo, Hilda Hilst studied at the Mackenzie Presbyterian Institute in Sao
Paulo from the year 1945 to the year 1947, Hilda Hilst enrolled to study law at the Faculdade de Direito da
Universidade de São Paulo and completed her studies in trhe year 1952 and it
was there that she met her best friend called Lygia Fagundes Telles, who was
also a writer of the country.
She moved to Casa do Sol in the year 1966, a country seat
by the Campinas side.

Career
Hilda Hilst wrote for close to 50 years and she collected the most
crucial literary prizes of the country. Her works were in different stages,
startig as a poet, to publishing Presságio in the year 1950. She started publishing staging plays in the
country in the year 1967 and moved into the prose genre in the year 1970.
Allthrough her career, starting from the year 1958 with Adoniron
Barbosa, many musicians of the county selected her poems for their music.
Hilda Hilst was the winner of the Prêmio PEN Clube of
São Paulo for her waork called Sete
Cantos do Poeta para o Anjo in the year 1962. The play called O Verdugo took
the Prêmio Anchieta in the year 1969. She was the winner of the
Associação Brasileira de Críticos de Arte in the year 1977, with her book
called Ficções, the best book of the
year. Hilda Hilst was also the
winner of the Grande Prêmio da
Crítica para o Conjunto da Obra, by Associação Brasileira de Críticos de
Arte in the year 1981 and in the year 1984, she was awarded the Jabuti Prize by
the Câmara Brasileira do Livro for her work called Cantares de Perda e Predileção and the following year, she won the Prêmio
Cassiano Ricardo. Her book called Rútilo
Nada, which was published in the year 1993 was winner of the Jabuti prize for
the best short story and on the 9th August2002, Hilda Hilst was give an awarfd in the 47th
edition of the Prêmio Moinho Santista in the poetry section.
Hilda Hilst took part in the Programa do Artista Residente from the year 1982 to the year 1995 at
the Universidade
Estadual de Campinas – UNICAMP, and her personal files have been in the
IEL-UNICAMP and have made available to researchers all over the planet.
