1872; he died on the 4th November 1963. He was a Brazilian poet, a
writer of short stories, a diplomat and a journalist. He was the founded the
and the occupied the 9th chair if the Brazilian Academy of Letters
from the year 1897 till he died in the year 1963, he became the longest
occupant of the chair for the total of 66 years and the youngest founder of the
Academy at the age of 25.

Carlos Magalhães de Azeredo was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro to Caetano
Pinto de Azeredo and Leopoldina Magalhães de Azeredo. He started writing poems
at the age of 12. He wrote his first
poem book called Inspirações da
Infância, which was never published and at the age of 17, Carlos Magalhães de Azeredo started trading
letters with Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis and Mário de Alencar.
