Kevin Johansen

Biography

Born to an argentine mother, Marta Calvet and an American father, Kevin Johansen lived most of his life as a child in the San Francisco Bay Area, though he moved to Buenos Aires with the parents at the age of 12 and later moved to Montevideo, Uruguay, and that was where he learned how to play the guitar.

Kevin Johansen made a short appearance in the local rock stage with the band called InstrucciónCívica with Julian Benjamin in the `1980s who dropped two albumsObedienciaDebida in the year 1985 and InstrucciónCívica in the year 1986, though he went to New York in the year 1990. It was there that he met and married his Argentine wife and they have a daughter together. Kevin Johansen played for CBGB’s club for a long time and was with them until he formed his own group called The Nada and in the year 2000, he recorded the album with the same name as the name with the group, a mix of various Latin Sound with the contemporary funk, pop and rock.

That same year, and with the new album being in his hands, he went back to the country, where he is residing. The album, which was released by Los AñosLuz was relatively successful and Kevin Johansen with the group travelled to Spain.

By the end of the year 2002, Kevin Johansen recorded an album called Sur o no Sur and was released by the same Los Años Luz in the country, Argentina and also by the Sony Music in the entire world.

In the year 2003, Kevin Johansen became successful in his country, performing in June at the Gran Rex Theatre, the biggest hall in the city of Buenos Aires. In Spain, he promoted his new album with the concerts in Barcelona and Madrid and with larger audiences this time. Kevin Johansen also performed at the MTV Latino Awards and from there he kept on with his concert travel to Miami, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco before he dropped his album in U.S.

In the year 2004, Kevin Johansen continued with his concerts in Mexico, Chile and Belgium and also in Spain with greater response from the people and from the media. At the Latino Grammy Award of the year 2004, his Sur o no Sur was selected for the "Album of the year", "Song of the year"and "Best Music Video of the year".
