Tahar Djaout was born on the 11th January 1954; he died on the
2nd June 1993. He was an Algerian journalist and a poet. He was also
a fiction writer. Tahar Djaout was assassinated in the year 1993 by the Armed
Islamic Group.
Tahar Djaout was born in Oulkhou in the relatively secular Kabylie region
of the country.

He was killed by the Armed Islamic Group due to his support of the
secularism and his opposition to what he took as fanaticism. He was attacked on
the 26th May 1993 while he was leaving his residence in Bainem,
Algeria. And he died on the 2nd June after being in coma for a week.
