Biography
Malika Mokkeddem was born on the 5th October 1949 in Kenadsa,
a small mining village that is located on the limit of the western desert of
the country, Algeria. Malika Mokkeddem is the daughter of a nomad family who
became sedentary. She was raised up to listen to stories that were told by her
grandmother, Zohra and was the only girl in her family and town to complete the
secondary education. She went to the university to study Medicine in Oran and
she completed her studies in Paris, France. Malika Mokkeddem specialized in the
Nephrology and later she set herself up in Montpellier in the year 1979. Malika
Mokkeddem practiced until the year 1985 when she made up her mind to dedicate
her time and energy to literature.
