February 1992. He was an Algerian playwright, theater director and also an
actor. Allalou is mainly known as the father of Algerian theater.

Biography
Allalou was born with the name Ali Sellali on the 3rd March
1902 in the Casbah of Algiers.
Allalou lost his father at an early age and by the time he was 13 years
of age, he had already started working to support the family. He successfully
practiced jobs like Pharmacy clerk, bookseller and tramway worker. The interest
he had for the artistic representation showed itself at his early age. At the
age of 15, he started frequenting the Froyer du soldat where he played skits
and sang music, and he became accustomed to some venues. He simultaneously
became acquainted with drama. Allalou attended galas Karsenty and performances
done by Georges Abiad and Azzedine’s Egyptian theatre companies in the early
part of the 1920s. The encounter he had with the theatre gave him the idea to
manufacture plays.
Allalou started manufacturing sketches that tackled the subject drawn
mainly from the reality of life and the everyday life of the entire world;
marriage, divorce, alcoholism, etc. these themes were as well added in the
plays staged after the year 1926. The contacts Allalou had with the Europeans
made him to realize and appreciate music.
Allalou died on the 20th February 1992 in Algiers.
