The
Uganda has well over 30 diverse ethnic sects which are referred to as tribes.
These tribes are different and are range evenly all over the country. Though
the spilt between the Nilotic tribes and the Bantu tribes is prove, with most
Nilotic peoples like the Acholi and the Langi located in the northern part of
the country while the Bantu peoples like the Baganda are located extremely in
the south of the country. Tribal music in Uganda, like in most African area, is
primarily functional. This means that most music events generally have specific
functions linked to particular celebrations like marriage, initiation, royal
festivals, harvests and many others. The music is dined by expert tribesmen who
are good at different instruments and well versed with the stylistic rudiments
of the music of their people. Most music is geared for dancing in the community;
hence most people have particular dances connected with their music. Call and
response pattern of singing is shared and it has many patterns of passing vital
information to the spectators.
