The Khiama Boys appeared as natural successors of
the Sungura Boys after their expiration during in the mid-8os. Members include
the following such as System
Tazvida (Rhythm guiter Zacharia Zakaria (Sub Rhythm guitar), ), Nicholas
Zacharia (Lead guitar), Alick Macheso (Bass), and Silas Chakanyuka (Drums). A
great number of these musicians have gone on to fake popular professions with
their own ensembles while Nicholas Zacharia has continued as the leader of the
ensemble and he is still active as of the year 2008.
James Chimombe, whose romantic ballad
and the powerful sungura song that is made up of the lead, beat and bass, made
him a favorite in the late 80s.
The 90s was led by artists such as
Leonard Dembo, the gassy Khiama Boys, veteran Simon Chimbetu and new musicians
such as Alick Macheso, Somadhla Ndebele and Tongai Moyo. The artist of the year
was none other person than Leomard Zkakata, whose musical project was a derivative
of the double play Maungwe Brothers, a performance fronted by Zhakata and his
cousin known as Thomas Makion. Zhakata seems to lament the ugly state of
affairs that characterize the current generation. As anyone can lock through
good listen of the beat of his word seem active the ground and also seems to
have the ability to revive the dead from the graves. Almost his every chant
speaks his agony, possibly the indiscriminate limiting of his chants by the
Z.M.C. The year 2000 till presence has been characterized by a wrangle for the
mass for the kingship of Sungura between the two great celebrities of the year,
Alick Macheso and Tongai Moyo. Having led sales, tour and show turnouts, the criticism
and counter criticism by the musicians at concerts and in some recorded evident
is strong proof that the new feud is far from end.
Other musicians to come through in the
subsequent years include Daiton Somanje, Joseph Garakara and Gift Amuli. And of
late, aleck Macheso has appeared to become one of the best singers in the music
firm, with his renowned dance known as zoraaa butter.
System Tazvida, John Chibadura, Thomas
Makion, Leonard Dembo and Simon Chimbetu have all died and left us with their
sweet songs.
Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi is a creative
recorder who has also emerged in films like Jit. He plays in a plethora of
patterns and he is recognized for penetrating words; for instance, he wrote a
second chant about AIDS in Zimbabawe after Paul Matavire’s hit chant Yakauya
AIDS iriko.
