Due
to the country turbulent political past, there was never be much time for
flourishing pop music company until relative peace was restored in the late
80s. Before then, artists such as Afrigo Band, Philly Lutaaya and Elly Wamala
were the few Uganda performances to have normal music achievement. Jimmy
Katumba and his music orchestra the Ebonies were also famous during that
period, particularly towards the 90s. The 90s saw the country’s love affair
with Jamaican music start when musicians such as Ragga Dee, Shanks Dee and
others were influenced by Jamaican musicians like Shabba Ranks. They introduced
the Ragga music culture into the country and though they faced stiff contest
from other African music patterns and artists at the time, ion especially
Souykous from the Congo and Kwaito from the South Africa, they managed to
create the foundation of the pop music company. But it was not still, until the
21st century artists such as Chameleone appeared that a pop music
scene really started to appear. By around 2007, there were already a series of
artists learning different patterns of music and the part of western and
Congolese/South African music had greatly reduced. Now, artists like Iryn Namubiru
and Jamal are just a few of the many pop artists in the flourishing and vibrant
pop music scene. The pop music duo of Radio and Weasel is known as the Goodlyfe
Crew, it is popular within the Africa, being voted in the continental MTV Based
awards as recently 2010.
