Mohammad Rafiq Shinwari
was a musician and a composer of the music of Pashtun. Even though he as well
tried the poetry of Pashtun, he composed some poems also, but it was his
composition for the early films of Pashtun that made him popular in the field.

Rafiq began his
profession as a Qawali music player for the Radio Pakistan Peshawa Studion in
the year 1961. Later on he gained a household name among the population of the
Pashtun of both the Pakistan and Afghanistan in the 1970 and the 1980s. he
mainly sang the sufi poetry of the Ameer Hamza Shinwari and the Rahman Baba.
It was in the year
2004 that Rafiq was established in his honor.
