The kane is a kind of bell that is found in Japan.
The kane is dish-shaped instrument that is always
accompanying the Japanese folk music of Min'yō. The instrument is always hung on a bar, and the player of the musical
instrument holds the bell in place with one of his hands and bats the
instrument with a mallet with the other hand. There are two specific sounds
that this musical instrument can manufacture; the Japanese call the two sounds
‘chin’ and ‘kon’. The chin is when the musical instrument’s interior sides are
hit with the use of the mallets, while the kon is when the mallets hit the flat
round inner face of the musical instrument. Also the musical instrument can be
found in use in the Buddhism or Shinto ceremonies like a gong.
A bell-shaped version of the musical instrument is sometimes
used for the musical instrument, but in case of calling kane, not minding the
size, is more known for being the temple instrument of the Buddhists, used as a
time signal in Japan.
