The
Puerto Rico music has changed as a mixed and active product of different
cultural resources. The very exposed musical sources have been Spain and West
Africa, though many ways of Puerto Rican music reveal roots elsewhere in Europe
and the Caribbean and also in the last century, in United States of America.

The
Puerto Rica music culture now includes a large and rich collection of genres,
extending from essentially local genres like bomba to the current fusion like
reggaeton. Generally considered the realm of Puerto Rican music it is certainly
made up of the music culture of the millions of people of Puerto Rican descent
who have settled in the mainland United States of America and Hawaii and
particularly in New York City. Their music from salsa to the boleros of Rafael Hernandez
cannot be divided from the music culture of Puerto Rico itself. However, this
entry will highlight music culture as it has booming on the island.
